#OriginalVinyl

What's your most influential albums of all time you still have the original vinyl for?

These are mine, both original pressings from the year of release (1978, 1990)

@MTP
Christmas of 1972, everyone got vinyl. I was glad to get anything music related.

I also got and still have the records no-one else wanted...

Donny Osmond - Portrait of Donny
Rare Earth - Rare Earth in Concert
Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge over Troubled Water
The Partridge Family - Up to Date

There's a long (over 500 characters) story of how "that" Rare Earth album would lead me to playing bass... because of a picture I mistakenly thought was a bass guitar on the photo pull-out...

@MTP I picked up an original pressing of War of the Worlds in the very small vinyl section of a local antiques shop a few years ago! It's in damn near perfect condition, not so much as a crease on the sleeve or a single scratch or pop on the disk. Cost: Β£5 (!)
Later that day I noticed a brand new pressing in the tesco vinyl section for Β£20. Niiice!

@Dace very nice indeed!

Mine is handed down from my mother who bought it on release, it's the same one that terrified/mesmorised me as a small 4 year old! (49 now)

@MTP hah, brilliant! Some of the elements of that must have been pretty freaky for a 4 year old!

@Dace the bass line with the unscrewing of the cylinder lid used to terrify the sh*t out of me (still creeps me out even today), but I used to sit there with the artwork booklet and be transfixed by it all (to this day I am VERY extremely emotionally sensitive to music)

My mother played the album non-stop for about 3 months solid when it was released so it literally forms the soundtrack to the early part of my life.

@MTP aaah, that's such a great bit! It really sticks in my mind. A great piece of sound design and the bass line manages to sound so alien and ominous.
It's cool to have that kind of association with an album, allows you to do a little bit of time travel whenever you listen. I have a similar association with Sgt. Peppers, that I played over and over on a cassette tape when I was about that age.
Damn, think I'm gonna have to spin WotW later, this has really got me in the mood for it!
@MTP Hell, yes, War of the Worlds! If my persistent ear worms have an overlord in my head, it is War of the Worlds.
