@trcwm

bravo

this is one of many hills i'd be happy to die on

@trcwm
I wish all programs would let users select the default setting.
@trcwm fwiw, ctrl-shift-V pastes in plaintext in 99% of cases.
@trcwm I think it would be cool if we had the option to try this out.
@trcwm the paste each user wants should be the default (and yay for software like Office that lets you set that)
@trcwm If you are copying from VS Code and pasting into Google Docs, discovering that it is possible to get the syntax highlighting in Google Docs is possible only when formatted-paste is the defaultโ€ฆ or, maybe, I am just old. Some tools have a modifier (Shift?) to press for unformatted-paste.

@trcwm exactly what I think. Made it happen on my system thanks to Pure Paste. Highly recommended.

Pure Paste

Paste as plain text by default

@trcwm I had to use Excel recently and it is so incredibly hard to paste without formatting in excel. It is a multi-step process.
@DuncanWatson @trcwm If you're on Mac, the makers of @ivory have an app called Pastebot that handles that pretty well.
@trcwm I hundred percent agree.. until I actually want it to take the formatting with it. ๐Ÿ˜†
@gaycookie @trcwm Then I guess just ctrl+shift+v

swap the behavior
@freeplay @trcwm Waittt.. I never knew that was a thing.. OMFG..
@trcwm Or at the very least the default should have an easy toggle option so everyone gets what they want.
@trcwm so should providing Alt Text ๐Ÿ˜’
@trcwm If apps and websites could be consistent about which keybinding does paste without formatting you could at least rebind ctrl/cmd-v to that but there's always one special snowflake app with a different binding.
@trcwm
You should try shouting this from inside a crowd of people work with ms office and they will riot for you if they have half a rat's ass chance of finding the people who set that up, I reached for a pitchfork when I read it
@trcwm I remember this one time I wanted to retain the formatting......JK LOL that never happened.
@trcwm Yaaaas. This is what I've been sayin', fam. Ppl lookin' at me like I got a condition.
@trcwm paste with formatting shouldn't exist in the first place, it's useless, obnoxious, and cancerous
@trcwm except the commas and fullstops, they should get jiggled right.,
@trcwm (cmd shift v) or (ctl shift v)
@trcwm I strongly believe this will be the right thing and it will change the entire future of computing industry!
@trcwm What no I love copying text from a website and pasting it into my plain document only for it to show up as 4 pt GEORGIA font with a beige background for some reason it's the beST THING THAT'S EVER HAPPENED I LoVe ItSoMuCh
@trcwm Def, agreed I'd boost, but there isn't any Alt text. ๐Ÿ˜ž
@trcwm true, though there's browser extensions that can so this, but it at least needs to be togglable
@trcwm The default behaviour in #vim.
@luis_de_sousa I suspect Wordstar and Edlin do the same!
@trcwm @grissallia Iโ€™d love a โ€œpaste with only semantic formattingโ€ option that keeps superscript, subscript, bold, italic etc but removes colours and fonts.
@trcwm No alt text no boost I'm afraid
@trcwm can override the default cmd+v behavior in macOS by adding a custom keyboard shortcut. one of the first things i do setting up a new macOS install.
@trcwm
And without adding extra crap like a sender and timestamp (I'm looking at you, Microsft Teams!)
@trcwm Out of curiosity, is this post inspired by Microsoft Teams? ๐Ÿ˜‚
@kyden Everything Microsoft.
@trcwm Yes. I share your pain in my soul.
