As mentioned in the past, I’ve been conducting informal, longterm, fieldwork on learning through electronic music.
I’ve been trying a number of tools, devices, and instruments. Some, like #SonicPi, are open and really push the learning process. Others are commercial products which create interesting networks through their userbase. My favourite of these might be #Bitwig.
So, I welcome news

My sense is that this move can really enhance the learning process. Licenses to the limited versions of this #DigitalAudioWorkstation are easy to find and Grid patches can really expand musickers’ sonic horizons. It can be a lot of fun to create those patches. Yet it’s probably a useful idea to play with premade ones.
Wish #Ableton followed that #Bitwig lead, here.

@enkerli Usually the problem with licenses isn't how easy they are to find but how hard they are to pay for.

@Downes I meant no-cost licenses, typically bundled with hardware or software. (Ableton does even more of that with the Lite version of Live, its flagship DAW.)

Of course, that’s still a far cry from open licenses.
