The drug-free solution is designed for daily use. In a trial, the pill produced at least one additional weekly bowel movement for 41% of participants.

I hope the pills are biodegradable.

I wonder if they could help with gastroparesis.

I have severe constipation (diagnosed w/ IBS-C). What works for me is teff porridge and/or Yakult. Shilajit also seems to help move things along, but I can't really recommend it as I'm not sure about safety.

Looks like they are using something similar for appetite stimulation - I'm wondering if this increases motility in upper GI tract as well (ghrelin is supposed to do that). Very interesting design. Might be useful in conditions like #MECFS, #POTS, #EDS

Unfortunately they are yrs away from human trials.

One way to increase ghrelin levels is by drinking carbonated beverages (article title says 'male rats' but they also tested male humans; would be nice to know if true for females) -

My daughter hates carbonated beverages, tho. I suspect this may have be due to elevated salivary carbonic anhydrase activity.

@Rhyothemis @Medscape I don't much like carbonated beverages either, actually. I drink water, coffee, an herbal tea after dinner, and a bit of fresh juice mixed with water at dinner. And an occasional glass of wine. That's pretty much it. Oh, and a tablespoon of apple-cider vinegar with about 75 cl of direct-pressed plum juice and a splash of water before breakfast.
