The Wine Makers – Randy Caparoso & Greg La Folette

Listen to this episode from The Wine Makers on Radio Misfits on Spotify. This week on the show we are talking about Lodi!! Randy Caparoso is a full-time wine journalist who lives in Lodi, California, and author of Lodi! The definitive guide and history of America's largest winegrowing region. Greg La Folette is the winemaker at Marchelle Wines and it would be easier to list the things he hasn’t done in the wine industry. [EP277] Marchellewines.com @marchellewines

@RandyCaparoso Here's a favorite interaction from that episode:

Brian Casey of The Wine Makers April 28, 2023 podcast at 1:28:22 into it:

Had you worked with grapes from Lodi, and why was it that you decided that this kinda was gonna be what you started to kinda do as your passion project. That this was what you
were going to spend your free time doing?

Greg La Folette, Winemaker of Marchelle Wines:

Well, you know, I'm not just makin' wine so much anymore. I'm doing this because I really love the people and the land. And the people in Lodi are some of the most authentic people I've ever met. These guys are real farmers. There's no pretention. It's pretty down to earth. Everyone's willing to help everyone else out. 1/2

@RandyCaparoso It feels a lot like what the Napa Valley was like, you know, forty or fifty years ago. And I love the people there. I love the atmosphere. And it just so happens they have some great grapes, including some of the world's oldest vines of any varietal you could imagine. And that keeps me coming back, because it's all about... What I'm doing, I'm passionate about. And I feel really free to be myself in Lodi. And I don't get treated with like kid gloves or anything there. I'm just another farmer like everyone else. And to tell you the truth, that's the way I really like it. I love the people of Lodi. 2/2
