You always hear about films where the filmmakers lost creative control and the end result suffered. And then there is The Swimmer that is basically a perfect film but suffered through all kinds of creative differences. ALL of them. From producers, stars with fragile egos, Elia Kazan for some reason... I'm not saying the problems made the film BETTER, on Justin Bozung's commentary track he points out what was forced upon the film and I can't help but NOW noticing that there could have be an even better version of this while I couldn't imagine that on previous watches.
