Don’t know how to screen grab video without installing OBS, which would be overkill for my current use, so here’s off-screen video of my the tool paths I worked up for my next iteration of dice vault. #Fusion360 #Maker #XCarve #DnD #TTRPG

Well, I stupidly realized I was using climb milling instead of conventional. Made that switch and suddenly the parts fit together even before I sand the fuzz off. If anything I have them too loose now.

Made a couple tweaks for speeds and clearances, and I’m trying on a piece of walnut. Please ignore my obvious tramming issues. #Woodworking #Maker #CNC #TTRPG #DnD #Dice
Not sure what all things went bad, but honestly it was less than anything previously. May have been some loose clamps, and was definitely the cheap skid wood (yes, I actually found walnut in the trash). Still, doesn’t look too bad.

Sanded a little more and threw some finish on it. I think next time a light coat of satin polyurethane instead of the Tung oil blend. It’s a bit rough still, but I’m getting closer to where I want to be.

@aardvarksagus

Clean lines and few wobbles. What's it going to contain?

@MaryPot These are designed for dice for tabletop rpg gaming.

@aardvarksagus

But now with magnetic "locking", right?

I like the dark wood a lot better - and it will be even more beautiful once you have oiled or laquered.

May I suggest green or golden dice in it?

@MaryPot I was honestly thinking blue for this one, but I’m not sure I still have all 7 of my blue ones.

Yes, hopefully magnets this time, but I am still having trouble sourcing them in pairs for cheap enough. Easy to grab a bunch for pennies online, but can’t choose polarity until I pay 10x as much.

@aardvarksagus

Round, flat magnets?
I have a bunch of different ones stuck on my desk lamp!

I don't get choosing polarity. Doesn't it just depend on what side you have up/down?

@MaryPot I will probably have to just go with solid discs, which means I don’t need to choose polarity. My plan was to use countersunk ones and screw attach them, which need specific polarities or they just repel instead of attract.

@aardvarksagus

Disks are much easier, aren't they? A dab of glue and job's done?
You could always use some resin to put them in the holes. Would make an even surface and give even the hole a shine.

@MaryPot All of my previous ones have been cheap pine. This just happened to be my last piece of cheap walnut that was large enough for it.
