I remember a decade back we'd be thronging parks, spring fests, scheduling all sorts of outdoor events this time of the year.

Its been "no later than Feb" for a few years now. Thats what makes this #spring surprising - still blooming in April

Not to take away from the ongoing South-East Asian #heatwave, a 54C (130F) real feel temp is unsurvivable!

The South-East Asian #heatwave covers #Bangladesh and parts of #India as well; thankfully the rest of South Asia has escaped it for now.

The heat index hit 54C or 130F in #Bangkok!

FYI, a heat index above 37C means humans cant survive even in shade, without constant cold water sprays or air conditioning, fans alone wont do anything.

Above 50C is considered unsurvivable!

@SiR_GameZaloT

You're confusing heat index (HI) with wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT). They're strongly related, but not the same.

"Even heat-adapted people cannot carry out normal outdoor activities past a wet-bulb temperature of 32 ยฐC (90 ยฐF), equivalent to a heat index of 55 ยฐC (130 ยฐF)." - Wikipedia

Obviously it's still a ridiculous nightmare, but accuravy is important.

@RhinosWorryMe @SiR_GameZaloT i have to say it is very easy to confuse the two. A while back i read an excellent explainer about this and do know this but by now i have forgotten so much that again puzzled why there isnโ€™t a clearer, easier way of talking about #WetbulbTemperatures and relating these to the measured temperatures in weather reports etc. for non-experts
