#climateDiary #Spain braced for record-breaking April temperatures of 40C

“The extreme conditions will follow the driest March in 20 years in some areas which has increased growing concerns about the nation's water reserves and officially placed Spain into long-term #Drought.

Reservoirs are around 15% below average levels with some shrinking to just 26% of capacity, while the dry conditions are raising fears about the outbreak of more wildfires with summer approaching.” https://news.sky.com/story/spain-braced-for-record-breaking-april-temperatures-of-40c-12865085

@pvonhellermannn the situation is horrifying... I'm personally very worried on this. People are not aware here of the fact that we'll probably have to experience droughts for some consecutive years...

@albertonuno7 Thank you so much for adding this. Do people not talk much about the weather and drought at all, or more as an unusual one-off event, expecting things to go back to “normal” again? I can imagine it’s really difficult when you are yourself aware and worried, including the dissonance with those around you. Feel free to contribute to #ClimateDiary - that’s what we set it up for

**LAUNCH** of #ClimateDiary Hashtag I've been thinking for a while that it would be good to have a collective Climate Diary (along the lines of the Sussex Mass Observation project): people from across the world recording and sharing everyday observations, experiences, thoughts, feelings relating to the #ClimateCrisis I would like to try out simply using a #Hashtag - #ClimateDiary - here on #Mastodon to create this and I would like to invite you all to join in and share widely! 1/4

@pvonhellermannn I'm currently pissed off with something happening in my region (Andalusia): our governor is giving legal status to extensive farming (producers of strawberries)so they can take water from an unique natural reserve/acquifer in Doñana (Huelva). Their greed is sooner or later going to dry it out.

WWF call on Spanish authorities to react urgently to drying out of Doñana

Doñana, one of the most important wetlands in Europe and a World Heritage Site, is experiencing a disastrous year. All the lagoons in the National Park have now officially dried up as have the Doñana marsh and the Guadiamar stream.   WWF experts have visited the Doñana Biological Reserve

@albertonuno7 yes - it is really wrong. I read an article about this recently and was trying to find it just now - then saw so many, going back to 2016. Hope 2023 will be a turning point for this, too. #Spain #Drought #WaterPolitics #ClimateDiary
