The Texas Observer reports on Tx Dep't of Agriculture's new dress code: ”Employees are expected to comply with this dress code in a manner consistent with their biological gender" [sic] & will face "corrective action" if they don't.

This is literally what the Supreme Court held violated Title VII in #Bostock. In 2020! In a Gorsuch opinion! I know the #RuleofLaw is in tatters, but seriously . . .

Ag Commissioner Sid Miller’s New Transphobic Dress Code

An April 13 memo from the Department of Agriculture welcomes “Western wear” but requires employees to dress according to “biological gender.”

The Texas Observer
@Bethanyrberger Teeing up a new test case, or just don'r care?

@Bethanyrberger @TexasObserver @oconnell

That would be naked, then? If they *really* want biological.

@Bethanyrberger @TexasObserver @oconnell this reads exactly like this Nashville “Christian” school policy: https://mastodon.online/@DavePerrino/110260325213047999

A Nashville senior was banned from prom for a suit. Locals stepped in to help - https://www.npr.org/2023/04/25/1171695996/nashville-senior-banned-from-prom-suit-dress Christ wandered the desert with 12-men and supposedly “laid” with a prostitute. Christ also said no one but “god” can judge anyone. And these people call themselves “Christian”.

Hey Texas, I'm messing with you(r jackhole Nazi governor ), kiss my ass.

@Bethanyrberger @TexasObserver @oconnell @amalgamary My cousin Fegala Ben Miriam sued the federal government in the 60s or 70s on these grounds. He was a typist for the federal govt and was fired for wearing a dress to work for a year. Went to Supreme Court and won. He was also one of the first people to sue for legalization of gay marriage, obviously lost that one.
@TexasObserver @Bethanyrberger @oconnell @amalgamary His sister and brothers know much more and he does have a wikipedia page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faygele_Ben-Miriam Arg, I got his name spelled incorrectly. Faygele, know as Fegs to his friends. The entire family is quite interesting.
Faygele Ben-Miriam - Wikipedia

@TexasObserver @Bethanyrberger @oconnell @amalgamary Stuff not in the wiki page but more family lore. He did hitchhike cross country in a dress; trucks would slow down until the drivers saw his beard, and then speed up. He also drove cross country in a van with friends with “Faggots against Fascism” painted on it, not a safe thing to do in the early 70s.

@TexasObserver

Storycorps did a nice episode on him on YouTube, it even mentions that dress code lawsuit.

@ina @TexasObserver thanks. I’ll look it up and let his siblings know about it. Also, a series of fairy tails, “Fairytales for Fegs” was named after him.

@paulc

@TexasObserver

Wait, like a book series? That's super cute

@ina @TexasObserver Fairy Tales for Fegs was printed in a magazine, so a tale per issue or whatever. I remember seeing them when I was 16, my father and I were visiting my brother at college and we went to visit Fegs’ mother (my father’s cousin) and Fegs was staying with his mother, so my memory isn’t great. I don’t know if they were collected.
@ina @TexasObserver found it. faygela was very political and was annoyed that he was dying of lung cancer and not AIDS.
“Why He Was Unknown Is A Mystery”: Remembering One Gay Man Who Sued For The Right To Work

Patrick Haggerty and his friend, Ronni Gilboa, remember their friend, Faygele ben Miriam, a gay rights trailblazer who fought against workplace discrimination.

@ina @TexasObserver Thanks. Faygelas’ sister didn’t know about this and was pleased to see it.
@Bethanyrberger @TexasObserver @oconnell

Huh. In the west I grew up in, men and women wore exactly the same garments. Boots, Levis, a plaid shirt, and a hat. And a belt tooled with your name on the back. I mean, I guess maybe he's referring to a team-roping versus a barrel-racing belt buckle?

@Bethanyrberger @TexasObserver @oconnell Honestly weird that they let women wear pants, but that ship has sailed I suppose

I would be gone by the first rule. Shoelaces tied?!?! No thank you 😤

@Bethanyrberger @TexasObserver @oconnell @donmelton Look all I’m saying is I don’t think they specify a time period for their “biological gender” dress code, so…
⬆️ I didn’t know “asshole” was a gender but he’s sure dressed like one.
@Bethanyrberger
They love free speech in Texas. Bunch of bigots and weirdos that should return to the 1800s

@TexasObserver @oconnell @e_urq
@Bethanyrberger @TexasObserver @oconnell It’s just a matter of time before someone files suit against him. This guy is pretty despicable.
@Bethanyrberger @TexasObserver @oconnell I've said it before, and I'll keep on saying it: this is the second great dark age. An age of aggression, exploitation, ignorance and oppression, undermining many decades of improvements in quality of life for most of society. Like the dark ages two thousand years ago, the effects will not be evenly spread.
@Bethanyrberger @TexasObserver @oconnell That ham in a cowboy hat is the Sec. of Agriculture for Texas?
@Bethanyrberger @TexasObserver @oconnell
According to the "...manner consistent..." shouldn't he be wearing a tiara and tutu" ?
@Bethanyrberger @TexasObserver @oconnell That man is the definition of big hat, no cattle
@Bethanyrberger Are they going to outlaw those stupid cowboy hats?
