i am simply requesting that every application or website that displays relative dates ("1h ago"), no matter the reason, implements a tooltip that shows the actual timestamp on hover. is that too much to ask? #ux #web #accessibility
@lime @kaplag Let’s have it do that but the opposite, so screen captures can capture absolute dates.
@lime @kaplag Actually, like serif and sans, it would be best as a user preference toggle.

@lime yes, this, but I'd prefer absolute dates in the first place.

"1 year ago" - is that 365 days, roughly 52 weeks, or roughly 12 months ago give or take a month?

@thejpster i feel like there's a different purpose to relative dates and absolute ones, so i don't really want to get rid of either. optimally it should of course be a setting.
@thejpster @lime I would assume "1 year ago" means somewhere between 6 months and 24 months, probably between 12 months and 18 months. Definitely no expectations at the granularity of weeks or days.
@lime ideally in an easy to copy ISO8601 format

@epcjones yeah! like +002023115T13.720

(iso 8601 is maybe a bit to broad https://ijmacd.github.io/rfc3339-iso8601/ )

RFC 3339 vs ISO 8601

Comparison between RFC 3339 and ISO 8601 date formats

@lime good point, I meant the uh "colloquial"/typically ISO8601 format rather than the entire specification... I guess we need yet another standard
@epcjones honestly, any date format that cannot be put in time-order by a lexicographical sort is worse than useless
@lime good point. I will put that onto my todo list for my blog. Nice addition to the permalink tooltip.
Thanks.
@lime @andrewabernathy Amen. Really a pain when you are trying to correctly cite something.
