Every time I hear someone refer to Covid in the past tense I know how little they value my life.

The *lockdowns* are over. Not the pandemic. The accomodations are over. Not the pandemic. The protections are over. Not the pandemic.

@sigridellis *huge sympathies* from someone whose day included interacting with someone who - I resolve to say bluntly next time - has drunk the eugenicist kool-aid.
@sigridellis I take my lead from Presidents Day and refer to it as End of Covid (observed)
@sigridellis There never were lockdowns in the U.S. When were we ever told not to leave home without permission from a government agent (police/military)? "Shelter-in-place except for essential business" is not a lockdown.
@sigridellis You read my mind! Everyone’s just expected to fend for themselves now. It’s not good…

I miss lockdown. Not the height of the pandemic aspect obviously…but I miss the lockdown environment. We were all stuck at home, but at least we were all connected online getting through it together. Now it seems like everyone’s eager to forget and get back to their lives. But lots of folks are still dealing with the physical and mental health ramifications of COVID. And it’s not over; folks are still getting sick!! There’s just less help available now for those who need it… #COVID19

@sigridellis same. I find myself screaming into comment sections of YouTube videos to say excuse me. Pandemic never fucking ended what the fuck.
@sigridellis This should be on a banner. I love your pithy roundup of our current situation.

@sigridellis

Everyday I am grateful that my little bubble has chosen not only to protect our most vulnerable members but to not volunteer themselves for long covid (or worse). But I can't spend all my time in my bubble, and I vacillate wildly between disappointment with, anger at, and concern for those who are no longer protecting themselves as well as no longer protecting others.

@sigridellis

My elderly aunt contracted it today. There is an outbreak at her assisted care facility. So, you’re right, the pandemic is not over. Solipsism would say it’s now endemic.

@pjtn I'm so sorry.

@sigridellis

It’s ok. She’ll tough it out. As I reminded her yesterday she’s beat the odds for 3+ years and just turned 96 years old.

@sigridellis People find the idea of a "forever pandemic" too awful to accept, so they deny it. Yet that is what we have.

@sigridellis

On CBC radio the other day, I was very pleased to hear the medical ‘columnist’ - Dr. Iris Gorfinkel - who left the script and pushed back when the host made a ‘post-pandemic’ comment.
