@ClaudiaZahn

As an honorary #Hoosier (my daughter lives in #Bloomington), it's good to hear about famous Hoosiers. #granfalloon

@riggbeck
#Hoosier is the name for people living in #Bloomington? ❤️

@ClaudiaZahn

Indiana is the Hoosier State.

@riggbeck
Oooooooooooooooh.
Thank you. 🥰
@ClaudiaZahn @riggbeck A Hoosier is someone from Indiana
@brian @riggbeck
One of my friends from #Indiana wrote me this:
"The Hoosier Poet," James Whitcomb Riley claimed that the term originated in taverns and is due to the rough and tough nature of early Indiana settlers. The morning after a bar fight, body parts would be left lying around and someone would ask, "Whose ear?" This, of course, supposedly became #Hoosier.

@ClaudiaZahn @brian

I want to believe that's true. I'd never heard of James Whitcomb Riley, but found this documentary about him. A proper character.

I am deeply impressed, even Wikipedia calls him "Hoosier Poet"! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Whitcomb_Riley

@ClaudiaZahn Is there context for this image that makes it somehow NOT Blackface?
@sennoma
Blackface.
Really?

@ClaudiaZahn I mean Blackface as a general term, this seems to be aimed at different indigenous identities, but that's a small distinction.

I could be wrong -- again, context? -- but the image just doesn't sit right with me.

@sennoma
Dave was diversity before that was even a thing. His character as presented here and on the Eat'em and Smile album was the "Heavy Metal Shaman". It had nothing to do with race. Just Dave's over the top vaudevillian showmanship and his depiction of a cannibalistic shaman that would Eat'em and then Smile! Simple.
