It seems like folks on Twitter could easily self-verify by putting their handle on their public presence: if you're at-joe, put "Reach me on Twitter at at-joe" on your website, in your podcast, your book, or whatever you're trying to use to anchor your identity. It's essentially how Mastodon does it, just without support in the platform.
