I've decided to ACTIVELY decouple from Twitter: Every day, I go back and DM at least 10 of my followers, telling them I've moved here and to follow me here instead (I remove them as followers after that DM). A number of them have set up accounts as a result.

Please do the same if you're more active here than on #Twitter That's how you can help the #twittermigration

Boost if you agree.

#spreadmastodon

@TNLNYC Tristan: check out and follow @maystodon - lots of similar organizing going on in that group! #TakeBackSocial
@TNLNYC Did that, just the wife followed me. 😕
@TNLNYC Need to develop some things like time line, comments, design and ect faster! At this time this is not a good change! As a social app it's not human center yet!
@danialZandi Honestly, I disagree. I find my few months on Mastodon have been more fullfilling than the last few years on Twitter recently.
@TNLNYC This is such a great initiative...tried asking friends to do the same since start of this year but to no avail. Anyway, I've decided to finally leave Twitter for good next month. It'll be a full nine years that I've been with that app and I guess it's already more than enough for this lifetime. 🤗
@jahabof1794 I figure if enough of us do it, it will be the next wave of adopters who see that this is a less toxic and much better place.
@TNLNYC hi
I,m agree . But l can,t , so you can blive me or not , i have my owne reasons ........
@TNLNYC that would assume that I alone would be a reason for them to migrate as well. I'm a little more humble. I sometimes just generally post that I moved here. Still, 95% of my Twitter buddies are still there (some have an account here, but are still most active there, for reasons that I totally understand).
@harcel @TNLNYC It doesn't assume that at all. They know about the fediverse, unless they're living under a rock. We can communicate what we're doing, and maybe it's the push they need or maybe it's not, but they still can make their own choice.
@harcel Not at all the assumption. The assumption is that if enough of the people you follow send out the same message, then it becomes clear that Mastodon is the place to be :)
@TNLNYC Another thing you can do is to create a public list and add them there. That list is the only thing I didn't delete https://twitter.com/i/lists/1611301307372945408?s=20
@TNLNYC how do you remove someone as a follower?
@christmastree there are 3 dots next to their name. One of the options there is remove follower
@TNLNYC @christmastree My Mastodon app Icecubes doesn’t have that option. What are you using with Mastodon? Thanks!
@christmastree There are 3 dots on their profile. Click on those and the menu will include "remove follower"
@TNLNYC I've just hopped over from Twitter, the 4/20 verification changes were really the last straw. Coming into Mastodon with many hopes!
@CurryBoiiNZ CBC (a much-loved Canadian institution) is listed as “69% Government Funded Media” 😤 What a child. [Update] Oh, all those labels have been removed… including the ones for actual government propaganda.
@jillianne this is what happens when twitter becomes the plaything of a manchild. I am glad to be rid of it!
@CurryBoiiNZ Mastodon is an amazing place (and has proper verification). Follow @donmelton if you're missing the algorithm and need to find interesting people to follow.
@TNLNYC @donmelton thanks for the tip! Followed :)
@TNLNYC @CurryBoiiNZ Thanks, as always, for the recommendation! 💖
@TNLNYC BOOST!! BOOST!! BOOST!!!
@TNLNYC Besides not really thinking that I matter so much for many people to create an account just for me, that would mean to login on the bird page. Has anyone tried to use that? Had they blocked Tweetbot years ago I‘d just stopped anyway, the user experience is just bad! Anyone using that on free will I can‘t understand anyway.
@irieger I'm just trying to help newbies evolve by giving them an extra reason to move here. If they follow me, I assume they find my stuff useful so I am just trying to redirect them :)
@TNLNYC on the other hand, i guess that people who decided to stick on twitter during last months don't really care about what's happening there, and so i assume we don't really need them around here 🤷‍♂️
@Tsadiq ... or they don't know enough to figure out how to switch. A lot of my followers are not techies so...
@TNLNYC meh, i follow a lot of non techies here who put a little effort because they just didn't want to be the support the terrible decisions of you-know-who. Past the distributed thing it's not *that* hard to understand 🤷‍♂️
@TNLNYC my Twitter account got locked because I refuse to delete a tweet drawing attention to the bad acts of a UK mp.
@britishtechguru I refuse to delete my account too (not giving someone else a chance to impersonate me) but I am looking to bring the value I contributed into Twitter down to 0 as I transfer that here.
@TNLNYC I don't much care if someone impersonates me. It would just allow me to draw attention to the soporific valuelessness of social media.
@TNLNYC DM spam for following an account is a new one. I think you could just tweet about your new store location instead.
@waterluvian Did that already. Some moved but there are still thousands who follow me over there. I just want to nudge them :)

@TNLNYC Fair! Just a disagreement on how DMs should be utilized. If people aren’t seeing or acting on the tweets, they may not be interested.

You do you, and I hope you succeed!

@TNLNYC Sounds like you had more success with this approach than I did.

I announced a couple of times on each platform when I’d be leaving Twitter and Facebook and that I had moved here (linked to my account and everything).

Zero family followed me here and I think there’s a total of… two?… friends who showed up here after that. From hundreds of connections on each site.

But, you can lead a horse to water, blah blah blah. 🤷‍♂️

@reay I did the whole announce publicly, delete all other tweets, and follow everyone you followed who moved over on here. But now getting to the laggards in my following by actively asking them to leave Twitter :)

@TNLNYC I sincerely don’t know how anyone stands being there.

It was psychologically bad already anyway, then Musk took over and just poured gas on the dumpster fire.

I get that people may need to be on for work, or whatever, but to be on casually just to wind down and relax or bide the time, or whatever?

Woof.

@reay I suspect people go there because that is still where a number of influential people (musicians, athletes, actors, politicians) and organizations are still hanging out.

It's a weird situation: the organizations/stars won't leave because that's where the audience is. And the audience won't leave because that's where the organizations/stars are.

@TNLNYC That’s why it’s nice to see SOME of them starting to make the move here. Neil Gaiman, Elvira, Mark Ruffalo… hoping more come this way.
@reay Absolutely... The smartest ones are always the first to join :)
@TNLNYC I should do this. At one point, I pinned a post on my bird site account, letting people know where to find me but soon deleted: Musk’s Twitter Nazi’s began to deactivate accounts who used any known Mastodon links. 🙄
@gadgetboy Please do. It's not my individual action that will make a difference. However, if more people are doing the same thing, then we have a chance of building a better social media world.
@TNLNYC @Gargron I did the same, except I publicly messaged people I follow instead, letting them know I wouldn’t be seeing their tweets after the free api access was shut down. I encouraged them to move here (even gave out mastodon.social invites) and a few did
@TNLNYC Wow, that's commitment 🙂

@kikebenlloch I haven't been known for doing things half-way :)

Since the fediverse is open, it's a commitment to a more open social media world, which I believe always wins over walled gardens or locked trunks.

I'm just trying to bring other people to this side so the win happens faster :)

@TNLNYC Congratulations on the effort. It's also great that so many people are setting up their own instances/servers. That way the Fediverse grows both individually *and* collectively.
@kikebenlloch Absolutely. This feels like the internet returning to form: working collectively to make the internet better FOR EVERYONE
