Are you limited in what foods you can eat? I was considered a picky eater when I was growing up. I still habitually eat the same things over and over again.

True story:
my daughter who didn't want to eat red cabbage at the age of 8 found a solution: sunglasses to mask the color.
@autism101 @actuallyautistic I am super picky. And that’s an understatement. Everything is the wrong taste, texture, sensation of eating it. I take small bites of food so it’s not overwhelming. I’m less picky with drinks, although I’ve cut back on the stim drinking with good results. The list of what I don’t like is wayyyy longer than what I do like.
@autism101 @actuallyautistic I was a picky eater when I was a kid. There are still a lot of things that I don’t like. Mainly bitter things. But it’s not too bad anymore.
@autism101 @actuallyautistic I have very little of this, but what I have is all about texture. I don't like creamy things or fluffy things. Anything with mono-texture. Like blended soup or plain yogurt.

@autism101 @actuallyautistic Very picky. Childhood trauma, as I spent endless hours sitting in front of "disgusting" food I was supposed to eat. Couldn't have it if some food touched another on the dish.

Was vegetarian for some years. Due to health issues, I've tried different diets. There are some foods I can't eat (but would like to) and many that I won't eat because I consider them "bad" (like sugar and gluten).

@autism101 @actuallyautistic Picky, repetitive, but always willing to branch out (probably out of necessity due to being put in coercive situations where it was the adults' way or the highway).

I used to be a fussy eater, no onions, mushrooms and disliked carrots when I was younger, now I will try most things. I do eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch everyday.

I've always hated the term 'fussy eater'. Like some how not wanting to eat something that tastes vile to me makes my tastes less valid. Kids have more sensitive taste buds so it shouldn't be surprising that some things won't taste very good. I'm fortunate that I can eat spicier/stronger things now, but I still find onions vile.

Sorry for using the word fussy. I was stuck for the right word.

@alan_matts @autism101 @actuallyautistic

It's not your fault, it's the term commonly used.

@autism101

same here. I eat the same things in the same order every day if no one stops me (and provides more interesting food 😉)

When I was a little kid, yes, I was very picky. There are tastes and textures that I super duper do not like.

Many of those type of foods, I learned to block just so I can eat them. This was after we experienced the 1997 Asian financial crisis and the 2000 dotCom crash. I had to learn to eat whatever is available.

There are still foods, fruits to be exact, that I still avoid and can't get myself to eat. An example is orange, and anything that looks like an orange fruit.

I highly prefer
#umami, sweet, and salty tastes. Spicy are fine, but I'm on the lower end of the spicy range, higher than that, I can't and won't.

I'm fine with mixing food, but only to a certain degree and depends on how it was made (the balance of tastes for example). I'll step back eating strawberry + chocolate. But, if it's an ice shake, I'm fine with that mix.

Fish. I am very picky. I don't like most fish because of the taste and texture. My trick is to have a soy sauce or mayonnaise, and lots of rice, just so I won't taste it and won't feel the texture.

Now, that's me pre-gout and pre-kosher days. I now follo
#Kosher food, and since I also have #gout, my food choices are further limited.

Regardless, if there is one thing constant, I tend to pick: chicken, ramen/ramyeon,
#pancitCanton (Filipino noodles), mayonnaise (I avoid ketchup as much as possible), #pandesal or rice. If there is chicken #adobo and tinolang manok (Filipino chicken soup), I'll pick those.

What's important also is, umami taste. I avoid at all cost any food without
#MSG. Food without MSG not only tastes bland, it tastes dead. There is no umami taste in those “MSG free” food.

@autism101 @actuallyautistic not necessarily limited in what I CAN eat, but in what I will eat, though I've gotten a bit better with age (and being exposed to some good cooks).

Like too many people, I was forced to sit at the table until I "finished eating" and that was often foods with textures/tastes I couldn't deal with. Even now I feel ashamed when I leave food on my plate.That whole "somewhere, there's a child starving that would die for this food!" line...

@autism101 @actuallyautistic I was picky as a child, but not more than other children, I think. There's just one vegetable left that I don't like to eat, that is all forms for celery. The taste of it is just … brrrr. And I cannot eat very spicy.

Aside from that I eat or at least try everything. OK, some years ago I decided to live mostly vegan, but that is something else, of course.
