Did you know there's a fully 3D Elder Scrolls game on Nokia's failed N-Gage? And that it's actually pretty decent?

It's called Elder Scrolls Shadowkey and I recorded a little footage of me playing the start of the game to show you guys.

Isn't that cool?? 🤩

Still playing this game!
It's just Java-based, I wonder if someone would be able to port it to Windows. That would be pretty rad!
In the meantime, check out what Dragon Priests looked like in 2004!
Still recognisable!

@SuperSelena64 N-Gage games are not using Java. They are native S60 apps.

You can play most N-Gage games on Windows using the EKA2L1 emulator. (from the screenshots I guess you already do 😉 )

@SuperSelena64 This is so impressive for a 2003 era handheld!
I was recently talking to a friend who never played N-Gage and thought it was the same as older Nokia phone games. It really was an advanced piece of tech with some technically impressive games, and even good ones!

For anyone learning about N-GAGE for the first time, check out how cool "High Seize" is. It's a tactical RPG with pirates doing ship and land battles! Also Pathway to Glory, a squad based tactical game.

@SuperSelena64 N-Gage had such potential at the time, shame it didn’t catch on. I’d consider a phone/game console type device now.

That does look impressive. And Morrowind music makes everything better.

My thought when the N-Gage came out was that the screen was just too small, probably because it also had to be a phone. Just compare it to a GBA from a few years before.

And then you had the phone part that also got ridiculed, for example at Sidetalking.com: https://sidetalking.com/ (it's still online!)

Totally Sidetalkin' Nokia N-Gage Style!! SIDETALKING 2004-2005

@SuperSelena64
I think Retro Pals played this on Twitch. Surprisingly competent library on the N-Gage. If I could get a taco phone now I'd be all over it.
@SuperSelena64 I had this lmao. N-gage could have been pretty sick if it was designed better
@SuperSelena64 This is very cool! The video has kind of a Heretic / Hexen vibe.
@SuperSelena64 the S60 platform had some pretty neat games!
Lots of early handheld 3D, one of the fun things was that cracked versions of N-gage games were often released that could work on other Nokia smartphones also running S60v3 that were otherwise not available outside the tacophone.
@SuperSelena64 I saw someone asked about n-gage emulators on Reddit, your posts are reaching!
@SuperSelena64 Cool! I remember someone playing on one in 1 of my college classes in '04 with me a time also playing GBA Doom haha
@SuperSelena64 the framerate is better than I expected. I have never played an n-gage, but I recall that a friend had another Nokia phone that did play (hacked?) N-gage games, I remember that it blew my mind when I saw the port of tomb raider running on it.
@SuperSelena64 Thanks so much for sharing this again- didn't see it before.

@SuperSelena64 Wow, I had no idea this existed! What year did it come out? That's Morrowind music, so I would guess a bit after 2002?

Edit: must remember to read replies before asking, I just saw you mentioned 2004. Ignore me!

@SuperSelena64
Omg that Morrowind music tho. It's so iconic.

(Also: rat quest!)

@SuperSelena64 i remember seeing this advertised during the install of, perhaps, oblivion? madness! mocked it at the time because how could that have possibly been a good idea, obviously phones couldn't run games
