“Monash Carbon Capture and Conversion (MC^3)” comes from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Their team is developing 6 CCUS solutions, aiming for scalable carbon removal and durable sequestration for up to 100 years. Congrats!📷 📷 #climatechange #innovation #carbonremoval
📷 The second finalist of the #CarbonRemovalChallenge is the “The Sustainable CO2 Electrolyzer” from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB). Their unique CO2 electrolyzer can convert CO2 from air to a high-value product CO, congratulations to the team! 📷
Next is “Viridian” from the University of Waterloo in Canada, is our third finalist for the #CarbonRemovalChallenge. Their prototype uses a moisture-swing sorbent to remove CO2 from air and grow microalgae using the CO2-enriched water byproduct. Congrats! 📷 #carbonremoval
"Synchronized Water Amine Nexus (SWAN)" is from the University of Victoria in BC Canada! Their moisture swing DACC unit is inspired by OpenAir’s VIOLET project and aims to use sorbent material to filter CO2 out of ambient air. Great work! #climatechange #innovation #carbonremoval
And finally, #CarbonRemovalChallenge: SPARCC from Drake University in Iowa, USA! 📷 They created a Semi-Passive Algae Rooted Carbon Capture device that uses natural water flow to grow algae, collecting carbon through photosynthesis while also purifying local rivers. Congrats!

Please join us in congratulating all our finalist teams and come learn more about them at the #CarbonRemovalChallenge Showcase at NYU on April 21st, presented as part of NYU Sustainability's 2040 Now Initiative:
