Hashtags are everything on Mastodon — why not give them a home?

Mastodon is a helpful alternative to Twitter, but its reliance on in-post hashtags is inconvenient compared to blogging platforms like Tumblr.

@mark Agreed. I hate using hashtags because they make my posts look ugly. I’d also like if links were in a separate section.

@feditips suggested this, and I thought it made sense, so I have just started putting tags at the end. The other good piece of advice was to CapitaliseEachWord in a tag so screen readers say it nicely. Going a bit further and separating tags completely seems to also make good sense.

@tip @mark @thedextriarchy @feditips That’s just a hack to work around the missing search. As it puts the work on users to make at least some search work, it will not solve the problem.
Too easy to miss adding some tag - and most normal people wouldn’t bother at all, thus making Mastodon a less pleasant experience.

@mark @thedextriarchy I like the idea. As another commentor mentioned, adding the tags at the end seems to work for now.

@mark @thedextriarchy 💯agree. I’ve always felt uncomfortable adding inline hashtags for precisely the reasons described in that article. I polled about it early in my Mastodon experience, and got 100% approval of using them. So I guess it’s an accepted norm here, but I still don’t love it.
