Help #IrishTwitter -
my family uses #Skite (sounds like Sky t) to mean going out for a jaunt with no particular objective but to have fun and not be terribly serious about it. But I can't find that meaning in the #Irish #slang dictionaries. Have we been using it wrong all this time??
@Antiqueight I'd have skite as a less glamorous gallivant
@ailbhe well, that was what had me puzzled - I missed the 6th option in wiktionary and the options didn't seem like something you got up to with your mam....
@Antiqueight Sounds right. You'll find that meaning and spelling in Wiktionary.
@eolai Oh, you're right - I missed the last one in that list.
I'd only seen:
A sudden hit or blow; a glancing blow. A trick. A contemptible person. A drinking binge. One who skites; a boaster.
and was puzzled... but yes - it's totally A whimsical or leisurely trip.
@eolai which.... leads to the question of where that meaning comes from?!!?
