Looking for a way to ditch the 20W power brick on this #Apple #HomePod I found an outlet with an integrated 65W Power Delivery 3.0 output

Amerisense GaN 65W 2-Port USB Wall Outlet https://a.co/d/eSRuIcm

Pretty awesome. Only problem is I also need GFCI for this location  Turns out there are plenty of USB-C outlets with #GFCI, but none of them go above 5V. Of course the #HomePodMini needs 9V to be happy…

@PeterBronez can you install a gfci on the next outlet up in the circuit, and tie your new outlet to that one’s load terminals?

@cgsamp maybe? Probably?

TBH that feels closer to Real Electrician Work than I’m currently comfortable going #DIY.

A 1-for-1 swap is simple enough, but relocating a GFCI is tampering with the high voltage design of the home. If screw it up, it could actually be dangerous…

@PeterBronez I have been waiting a very long time for this! Leviton makes one as well, but it’s almost double the price! Thanks!

@RockyC oh interesting- I didn’t come across that one.

Surprisingly, there is detail missing from the Leviton materials. It says “60W” and “Power Delivery” not which voltages of PD version… and there are many:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_hardware#USB_Power_Delivery

“60W Power Delivery” could be

PD1.0 20V, 3A
PD1.0 12V, 5A
PD2/PD3 20V, 3A

Probably PD3.0 Standard Power Range, and thus 20V 3A max.
