I'm getting into the world of #KNX (home automation) and the standard is open, but looks like there is no way to do "parametrisation" of the devices without a proprietary ETS application. Also ETS only runs on windows, so it's like adding insult to injury. Am I missing something obvoius? Is it possible to use KNX without proprietary ETS? There is some linux KNX stuff, but nothing that would replace the functionality of ETS. #KNX #opensource #libresoftware #linux
#KNX is not that open as it looks on the first glance. #velbus might be the open system that I'm looking for. Any users?
A follow up: I got the #velbus starter kit. Looks great, works without any problems, but it requires windows to run #velbuslink - the configuration software. Fortunately nothing is encrypted. So far I didn't manage to run the software under #wine #domotics #homeautomation
@przemo #KNX ETS software is only Windows for the moment. Although a #Linux version is under development for the future.
@ilsognodapiloti thnnks for the info, but it won't change the encrypted database problem. I went for #velbus and managed to run #velbuslink under wine
@ilsognodapiloti Hi 👋! Id be curious about that ETS on Linux development. Do you have a source for that information?
