Spent some time last night improving the mobile experience for GB Renewables Map ⚡️

Try it out: https://renewables-map.robinhawkes.com

Still plenty to work on but it's much better than it used to be — you can actually use it on mobile now!

Also made a bunch of improvements to the map so that loads much faster too.
Please keep the feedback coming! 🙏

GB Renewables Map

Live map showing realtime renewable energy generation in Great Britain

@robhawkes Nice work, looks fantastic! I wonder if this kind of data exists for Japan…
@jamesvandyne Thanks James! 🙌 I'm not sure about Japan but let me know if you come across any as I'd be curious to see if this map could drop the "GB" prefix (as the wind/weather data is global).
@robhawkes That's a great and useful map! One small thought: should the wind speed be proportional to the zoom level? I think it's a constant speed now regardless of zoom level, so zoomed out it looks like the wind is moving much faster than when zoomed in. But really really cool!
@JanWillemTulp Great idea! I'll have a play and see if I can come up with a scale that makes sense and keeps it roughly the same perceptible speed at each zoom.
@robhawkes Yeah, that's indeed something to keep an eye on... ;-)
@robhawkes @JanWillemTulp You're right, effective speed is scaled by 2^zoom on purpose. It’s possible that the formula can use some fine-tuning.

@zakjan @JanWillemTulp Ooooo that's good to know!

It may be that I'm actually looking to change the trail length or density based on zoom, rather than speed – I'll have a fiddle and see.

Either way, something feels like the particles move faster when zoomed out so curious if that's an optical illusion or something I can tweak in the layer setup.
