Every day is like "starting tomorrow only people who post ‘Elon is cool' will be eligible to have their tweets appear in English" and the entire press corps and all of my friends continue to post there like nothing has changed
@caseynewton I understand the people who feel they need to post there for work and stuff. And I *kinda* understand people who are just lazy and feel like getting set up here is too much work. But... uh... yeah. Don't understand the people who insist nothing has changed and just keep keeping on.
@mmasnick we can do better as a society!
@caseynewton i keep telling people that on twitter, and they keep telling me to shut up.
@mmasnick @caseynewton I'd be OK with those people staying on Twitter. The lack of vitriol here has done wonders for my stress levels.

@halfcocked @mmasnick @caseynewton

Mastodon and Reddit feel like social media for adults.

Of course that theory is also blown apart by me being on both.

I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions, but my reddit experience is that they are subject specific and people tend to stick to the subjects.

@caseynewton @mmasnick @BrianHelman @halfcocked I’ve spent way too much time on Reddit and my conclusion is that Reddit is where all sorts of annoying and childish people tend to gather
@mmasnick @caseynewton I just read someone commenting on the birdsite that "no other network" has a tab like "following" and I just wanted to ... grrr
@mmasnick @caseynewton They are committed now. So don’t waste your time.
@mmasnick @caseynewton I mean, it's quite obvious we can't. These last 3 years have been extremely telling in this regard.

@mmasnick @caseynewton
I'm starting to work on getting local Indivisible groups in PA to create Mastodon accounts and ask their Party and elected officials to do the same.

If we can get activists and electeds to use Mastodon, we will make it much easier for journalists to move as well.

There are seemingly legitimate reasons to stay on Twitter, until there are not.

@joeinwynnewood @mmasnick @caseynewton I think many journalists still avoid Mastodon because it doesn’t have a robust search capability.
@scottspeaking @joeinwynnewood @mmasnick @caseynewton I think many journalists avoid it because they don’t get the 50k follower swagger .
@CatDragon @scottspeaking @mmasnick @caseynewton Unless they fork over $ to Musk their Twitter swagger will rather quickly turn into a stagger as far as actual view of their posts go.
It certainly won't hurt to urge those we (used to) follow on Twitter to put a flag down in the Fediverse and get to work on building their following here.
