It’s been a while, so: #KDrama update!

#HotelDelLuna: adequate introduction to the genre. I *really* wanted more Man-Wol/Grim Reaper scenes.

#Possessed: inconsistent; overpowered antagonist; underwhelming.

#Signal: OMG this is AMAZING why isn’t there another season‽ I’m devastated it’s over.

Please, if you have recs, share them. Tagging in @philabrarian since you suggested you did 😊

@youronlyone @philabrarian okay, enough people have rec’ed Eternal Monarch that I’m *definitely* watching it. I also have the Emperor and the Clown (is that the name?) in my list…

Thank you for all these titles to check out!

@dsharman @philabrarian Yeah! Eternal Monarch. I think i've watched it 3 times already. I just can not find another story like it, and the way they built the universe.

Usually, stories are one particular genre, with another genre as a plot device only. But in Eternal Monarch, both genres are of equal standing, and yet they have woven it together very beautifully.

I think it's #TheKingAndTheClown, at least it's the one that showed up in MyDramaList: https://mydramalist.com/368-the-king-and-the-clown I haven't watched it, but I did hear a lot of positive feedback about it.

The King and the Clown

At the height of the 16th-century Joseon Dynasty, a pair of rural male actors - boisterous, macho Jang Seng and quiet, feminine Gong Gil - travels to...

@youronlyone @philabrarian oh wait, I went and checked, and the one on my list is The Crowned Clown. but The King and the Clown also looks really good!

The more you say about Eternal Monarch the more I want to watch it.

@dsharman Oooh, I checked the synopsis for The Crowned Clown, it's so familiar.

It was probably aired locally, in Filipino dub, with a different title. LOL. Thank you, I'll add it in my list. ^_^

Have you seen Gaya sa Pelikula? It's on YouTube. I loved it so much! Unfortunately behind the scenes drama means there's probably no season 2.

@philabrarian Nope. Haha. I'm practically clueless with our local live-action productions, unless I saw it somewhere. ^_^;;

For example, it was only last year, or two, when I watched the film #100TulaParaKayStella (100 Poems for Stella), which was released in 2017. I only watched it because it appeared as a new upload in some unauthorised streaming site. LOL.

I checked your suggestion, definitely watching it!

I also have a ton of Thai, Filipino, Japanese, and Taiwanese shows I like. And my favourite jdrama is on Netflix now - The Full Time Wife Escapist. I think that Because This Is My First Life was based on it.

@philabrarian Oooh, thank you for that. Recently, I'm preferring comedy and life, with romance in-between. It's more uplifting. I just add one or two heavy stuff on the drama/melodrama sometimes. But, yeah, light ones are my preference these days.

Thank you for sharing!

If you like gentle slice of life try Ototo no Otto (My Brother's Husband) based on the manga. Aside from the fact that they cast an Estonian accented guy as a Canadian it's completely delightful.

@philabrarian @youronlyone @DrNDMcFadyen oh I had Mystic Pop-up Bar on my list too!

Off to check out the rest. 😊
