#Indigenous #leaders & #activists have #MixedFeelings about #LandAcknowledgments. While some say they are a waste of time, others are working to make the well-meaning but often empty speeches more useful. The #debate is more than a niche issue; the #ProsAndCons of land acknowledgments are the subject of #myriad mainstream media articles, social media posts and online videos.

I never heard of land acknowledgments before. It seems to me that could possibly be a useful trend to adopt in my country, except I feel fairly confident that the ones owing the acknowledging are exceedingly unlikely to participate in any. :(
(I'm looking at you, UK Government)
As in any place, "peace" here is relative.

@GertyBz It's pretty much a weak & shallow way for settlers to feel like they did something good. I'm not a fan of them, overall. I'd like land acknowledgements to include the fact colonial governments are still trying to exploit native peoples on their own lands. I'd love to see more real landback reparations happen in my lifetime.

I'd adore to see those too, at a minimum.
3 of 10 Judeo-Xtian commandments are against greed & 3 of 7 "deadly" sins are about greed
[no adultery (cheating), stealing, coveting], vs [greed envy gluttony].
I guess that's representative of humanity's most harmful crimes, ugh.
I don't consider lust to be a greed thing cos biology, but I've cheated & it felt like greed.

Ps: Haven't done AA or similar but isn't acknowledging the problem step 1?

@GertyBz FYI - Hitler was so inspired by how #Canada the #corporation (it's actually a corporation registered & all, look that up!) handled 'pesky Indians' & many parts of #Canadian #cultural #genocide on #Indigenous #FirstNations peoples here - he used many of the most #cruel #colonizers #tactics to gain control. Then used control to #decimate & commit genocide on many ppl. #Jews & a ton more who weren't Jews but seen as #outcasts - ppl need to not repeat #history ! They killed more than Jews!
