Holy crap I just randomly ran across the way to disable those annoying “Log In With Google” prompts that appear all over the web.

1. https://myaccount.google.com/data-and-privacy?hl=en
2. Scroll to Apps and Services
3. Click Third-party apps with account access
4. Uncheck Google Account sign-in prompts

@wbm312 This is deceptive, and only works if there's already a Google cookie on your device, which means you're being seen anyway - it fixes a nuisance but is not an anti-tracking measure. You can verify this by setting the pref and then clearing your cookies on exit.
@wbm312 is there a reason not to sign in with Google? Certainly easier than making a new account.

@dmittelman @wbm312 in general, some people think google doesn't need to know anything more about you than what you tell them, and prefer to manage sign-ins via 3rd party password manager or however they see fit.

Convenience for privacy is a common trade.

@dmittelman @wbm312 I like to have this as an option, but I don't want the damn popup all the time on websites that I never want an account on. Twitter is a great example of this being abused.

@wbm312 Using Facebook or Google to authenticate access to a web site means someone else is doing the heavy lifting of ensuring you are who you claim to be. This means the site doesn't have "roll their own" authentication and maintain a database that could be breached.

Personally, I login with private prompts, use different passwords with a manager, and trust a site isn't stupid with security. The fines for breaches are high.

And what happens if Google bans you from their platform?

@wbm312 hah, I randomly found this last night too, while looking for weird bits about serial devices via web services, which I thought weren't working in chromium (they were, bad cable).

@wbm312 It's purposely buried and hard to find even w/your pointer, but I was determined.

THANK YOU!!!

@wbm312
Interesting, “Sign In With Apple” generates a unique, random email addresses that automatically forward to your inbox. You can revoke the address at any time.
@wbm312 Oh! What a great service!
@wbm312 Very helpful! Just did this myself.
@wbm312 any solution that requires being logged in to Google is not a solution... I've attempted to use uBlock Origin etc but no luck as yet :(
@wbm312 Thank you! Bloody tired of those pop-ups.
@wbm312 I've done that and I'm still getting the damn things. Might have something to do with the fact that I have 10+ gmail accounts.
@wbm312 Thank you so much for this.
@wbm312 you deserve a Nobel prize.

@wbm312 yeah that actually doesn't work

(Source: i have it turned off and still get the annoying prompts on random sites)

@wbm312 And also, when I navigated to that option it told me, "You haven’t given any apps or services permission to access your Google Account." Even better! :))
solutions - uBlockOrigin

An efficient blocker add-on for various browsers. Fast, potent, and lean.

@wbm312 @robey the cruel part of this is that you have to be logged in to google to see the checkbox, but they show the prompt even if you’re not
@wbm312 This only works when allowing access to all your cookies on every browser tab, you definitely don't want that. Nowadays everyone should be using containerized tabs or something like cookie auto-delete.
@wbm312 better way: install NoScript, never permit anything google related.
@wbm312 But I also see 'sign in with Facebook' an account I have never had.
@wbm312 Hi, does this still work for you? I may have messed it up somehow, but I caught one of those prompts on birdsite the other day.
