I was woken up today by a phone call letting me know that due purely to budgeting changes I’ve been let go from my full-time contracting position I just started in January after being laid off in September.

I am a former #Apple #engineer with 15 years of experience making apps for #iOS and #macOS. I also have experience with #Ruby. Available immediately for full time or contract work.

Please boost. #Swift #RubyOnRails

@collin Sorry to hear this bud! This sucks big time.
@collin I know how you’re feeling bud, it’s the worst and we don’t deserve to feel this way. I won’t be freaked out for you if you’re not freaked out for me. We’ll make it.
@kyle We’ll be okay. Things have just sucked for a while and I thought I was starting to come out of it and feel better. Oh well.
@collin My company does dev work for client projects, and we’re looking to expand. If you’re interested I can get you in touch with the hiring folks.
@collin Sorry to hear this, best of luck getting the next gig.
@collin Well shit. I hope you find something quick.

@collin Sadly I have no real jobs to offer in ruby.. That said if it interests you I have offered money to any developer interested in developing a few features into mastodon that I would like to use... It wouldnt come close to proper hourly pay but might be some money in your pocket plus whatever you develop is open-source.. might get you a little spending money anyway...

Let me know if interested, will be on the generous side for open source bounties at least

@collin it doesn't actually help, but I'm so sorry, that must be so stressful! good luck in the hunt!
@nothe it totally helps! Thanks!

Mastodon is still looking for a Ruby on Rails Software Engineer (maybe even a DevOps Engineer + Product Designer), remote position 86.000 €/year!

You should go to their application page if you can see yourself working for them :D! I applied (was not nearly as qualified as you are) and it took just a few minutes (Name, Skill levels, upload resumes) so… Might be worth a shot :P!

@collin Are they still hiring people with 15 years experience? Or is the algorithm now discriminating against those folks, too, along with anyone over 50? Best of luck to you on the job search. It's weird out there.
@magdalen I have a feeling I’m probably going to stick with contracting, unless something really enticing comes along and maybe there things are less weird.
@collin I’m so sorry Collin! I hope something comes along quickly.
@collin dang. Sorry about that pal. I’ll keep my eye open for anything. We don’t have any open positions around my team right now, but if that changes I’ll let you know.
@collin Geez! That sucks man. I hope you pick up a new gig really soon, and I'll keep my ears to the grindstone. Lots of Discord servers (Ruby & otherwise) have a jobs/gigs channel too, worth posting in as many as you can.

@collin hmm, "ears to the grindstone"

probably not a thing, lol 😅

@collin What kind of application experience? What was your role?
@mistial all kinds. macOS and iOS. UI, performance, data.
@collin
Twitter is hiring....................
Oh , just kidding....
You will find something I am sure...
You have some really good qualifications!
@collin I’m sorry tech is so bad this year. I think after years of great earnings, they might have carried their workers?
@collin I just read earlier today that @steve was looking for an intern with similar skills. Might be worth reaching out to see if he has other vacancies on the horizon.
@collin good luck mate. Most of the people who work like that to sack people are cvnts I think. In fact no. I'm sure. That's what they are.
@collin Very Sorry to hear that this happened to you.
@collin so sorry to hear about this, Collin. I hope you find another job soon. 🤞🏻🍀
@collin - we are a small ruby / rails shop in Switzerland and looking to grow our team. We have 2 remote employees/ contractors already.

@collin

Augh. That *stinks*; I hope you find a new job soon!

@collin @zotero is looking for an iOS developer: https://www.zotero.org/jobs

@collin Are you on Contractjobhunter.com ?
@collin @BillSaysThis There’s always WillowTree, Collin. 😃
@collin Sorry to hear this. Good luck. 💚🙌💚
@collin How are you doing? Any luck finding a position? For what it's worth I've been through the layoff train. I got laid off 4 times in 5 years in the 1990s from allegedly "permanent" jobs due to circumstances beyond my control. It was pretty discouraging but after banging my head on the employment wall things settled down and I've worked for the same company for 25 years now. Just have faith it will eventually work out and do everything you can to make it happen. Good luck.
@Doohickie I’ve had a couple of calls but nothing that’s moved too far along yet. Thanks for asking :)
