I have had a massive crush on Anton Walbrook since the first time I watched The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp. And who can blame me?
Stick around for all the hot gossip from 1943, kids!

Anton Walbrook in full righteous fury.

*swoon*

The Soldier and the Lady (1937, US) marked the *third* time that Walbrook played Michael Strogoff in film adaptations of Jules Verne's novel of the same name.

He had previously starred in Michel Strogoff (1936) in France, and The Czar's Courier / Der Kurier des Zaren (1936) in Germany, credited in both as Adolf Wohlbrück.

When he went to Hollywood for The Soldier and The Lady, he changed his name. Rather than return to Austria, out of concerns for his safety he settled in England.

Does anyone know if Jules Verne's novel Michael Strogoff has ever been adapted to the screen in Russia?

If a Russian adaptation were made today, I'd love to see Aleksandr Ustyugov in the lead role.
