@bookstodon And this is the difference between here and the birdsite - or that site as it used to be before the takeover and its right-wing swing and the verminous cruelty that now infests it. @bookstodon Martin Eden is a wonderful story about a tough guy determined to make it as a writer - if it wasn't for his suicide at the end, it would be widely read still as a classic. The only place it really survived was in Russia, where I think it was on the school curriculum…? Probably their equivalent of #Peig
