I'm reading #TheDawnOfEverything, delighted to hear these scholars lucidly arguing for something really important to me.

The arrogance of #MythOfProgress – which skews how we regard our ancestors, and shrinks our ability to imagine alternative futures – has frustrated me for a very long time. At last: DEBUNKED!

Graeber in particular happens to be my favorite scholarly curmudgeon at this point. So very clearheaded, so very cantankerous. #RestInPeace Graeber.

@independentpen I'm slowly reading and loving that book. I dip in very gently, read a tiny bit, and leave to digest for awhile. Thought-provoking and perspective-shifting and glorious. I'm just sorry that I primarily discovered Graeber's work after he was gone.
@aehdeschaine @independentpen I'm reading it slowly as well. Taken about 18 months so far :-) also part way through Bullshit Jobs which is worth a read
@wall0159 @aehdeschaine I saw that title in the front matter and felt very curious. I should check that out next
@aehdeschaine Yeah, same. He died really recently, in 2020, just before I first came across his work. I loved him so much at first sight, I felt like I'd lost a friend!
@independentpen You had me at "scholarly curmudgeon" and "cantankerous"! I immediately put it on hold at my local library. Looking forward to reading it.
