For the #RightWing, #DragShowBans have never been about the children or the clothes or the #comedy.

They have always been about the cruelty.

I'm old enough to remember this. It wasn't the only time they were in drag. I can still hear #BobHope's voice in my head, complaining about how his girdle is killing him, on one of his many TV shows.

You also have:
* "Uncle Milty" #MiltonBerle, who was famous for his #drag comedy.

* #FlipWilson, who repeatedly donned a dress to play "Geraldine Jones" with hilarity.

#Drag is much more a part of our culture than the people on the #AltRight would have you believe.

@AnneTheWriter1 I have nothing but strident contempt for all GoP / #RWNJ determination to banish all #lgbtqi peeps from societies, all around the world. If they felt they could safely murder us all, they cheerfully would. They are despicable.

However... whilst on a whole different level to the preceding, i also strongly dislike drag. I've never been able to not interpret it as a mocking attack of womanhood generally, as well as of sincere transwomen, by the effing patriarchy. It feels personal.

I see what you mean, but I think the increase in popularity of #DragShows (at least in part) is reflective of trends in society. Our society has of late been questioning gender roles and throwing off old gender stereotypes. I think #Drag performers are touching on that social change and allowing people to laugh about them.

Traditionally, drag in the media has tended to be more popular when women's movements have made the most progress. Perhaps it's a clap back against those changes, perhaps it's a step towards adaptation. I don't know.

they are scared they will go extinct hence the massive push to roll back women's rights.
