Finally getting around to this, one of my long weekend projects is going to be putting together my Secret Santa 2022 gift. Which looks simple, but I've found a way to complicate it slightly. I found a picture of the real thing (which happens to be the exact aircraft for the markings in the kit). Since I'm a modeller, and the markings are already scribed on the wood, it's a "why not?" to apply some technique and paint it. Plus it's almost all one colour.

First step is grey primer (to see how it reacts with the wood, and establish a base), then white for the bits I want to be white. There are a couple of errors in the kit markings when compared to the photo but that's handwave stuff.
Masking the markings needed some thought since my normal methods were out for fear or scratching the wood. So I photocopied the panels onto label paper and boom, ready made stencils. This is potentially problematic compared to low tack kabuki tape, but *should* work

#SecretSantaNZ2022 #FlatpackCorsair update (also will start threading this, so we're up to 3/n)

Masking applied, with some of my usual tape sneaking in where the stencils didn't come off the paper properly and first four pages of the assembly instructions completed

The next three pages of the instructions and where it's parked for the day to let the glue dry before painting. Never had to use a black and decker in my modelling before (one of the pieces needed thinning), but there's a first time for everything

Navy blue topcoat applied, some of the masking removed to see how it worked, and yellow nose band masked off and applied

#FlatpackCorsair 6/n

All masking removed, it mostly worked but some of it needed a bit of extra effort to remove the paper and label glue. Plus some accidental drop shadow where I misaligned the masks slightly.
There are some gaps due to the way the model goes together, to be inked in with white pen.

7/n OK, so the second half of Feb got really busy, but here's the rest of the #FlatPackCorsair progress.
Masking and painting the anti-slip panels on the wings and the "engine", both in flat black, and masking and painting the wheels and undercarriage
8/n #FlatPackCorsair undercarriage assembled, machine gun barrels painted burnt iron #details, all over semi gloss coat applied with the anti-slip panels masked so they stay flat, and undercarriage and propellor fitted
9/n and it's done! Thanks again #SecretSantaNZ2022, that was a lot of fun! Back to slowly grinding out plastic and resin now 🙂
