Mistodon: Happy #BlackHistoryMonth! Today we explore the music portfolio. This #ShiftJIS portrait of trumpeter #CliffordBrown (aka #Browny) was drawn using text characters by jazz lover Kalcha and included in the music-themed MIST0118 artpack collection released five years ago.
@mistfunk note to self: make latest daft punk art into ASCII to get featured

@JamesTDG
Our colleagues and us definitely appreciate a little Daft Punk! (Note: for Mist pack inclusion, ASCII adaptation is not required: we will also feature your French house as pixelart or, wildly, as interpreted through a MIDI accordion. Strange but true!)

We do have another music-themed artpack lined up for the next few months, so please consider the submissions channel open!

@mistfunk Any recommendations for tools I can use to convert my work? The ones I am currently are using aren't looking too good in Moebius
@JamesTDG converters are unlikely to yield satisfactory results, but I gotta say the most recent efforts you were sharing aren’t looking bad!
@mistfunk I finally finished it in lvllvl, and I swear I am about to throw my chair, the editor does not export in ans or diz

@JamesTDG It's looking good, and also I am seeing characters that there are no analogues for in the ASCII character set -- eg. half-square diagonal triangles for instance. (And typically ANSI will be rendered with rectangular rather than square character aspect ratios...)

What you have is handsome, but to make ANSI out of it will require a few compromises. (But who says it needs to be ANSI?)
