Part of the old #abandoned #Suquash #CoalMine site. This is the #ruins of the mine manager's residence. Cool #masonry being reclaimed by #nature - great place to explore. We were the only humans there, today.

Me in the archway, from the other side.
@msquebanh looks like it could have been used for smelting or processing ore! Very cool.
@cobalt The site is really cool to explore. I want to go back with experienced industrial cleanup crew because there's pools of tar at several parts at site. I'll post photos of 2 of them.
@cobalt One of the #black #tar pools at the #Suquash #abandoned #CoalMine site - two different views in this #PhotoCollage - the pools were frozen over.
@msquebanh great to see these photos. I worry about so many thousands of abandoned mining sites across the US. Instead of "forever chemicals" we worry about now, the old slag and sludge is poisoning the soil and water very dangerously. Tar pools frozen over? Yikes
@cobalt There was several frozen & partially frozen pools of black tar at this site. This is one of the larger ones.
@msquebanh @cobalt Perhaps there are sabre-toothed tigers in there like at La Brea!
@scotfot @cobalt I doubt it as this site is only about 150 yrs old.
@cobalt I need to dig into old archives to find out more about this old mining site. It was the first mining operation built on Vancouver Island over a century ago. I like researching abandoned sites to learn more.
@cobalt These 2 #rusted #steel barrel like pipes were a few feet away from the archway.
