Sinkat, #Sudan. This was once a British military office, now smithereens. I found visiting this area powerful. I was reminded of the poem Ozymandias. I collected a shard of tile. You can see it in the second photo.

There is a lot more to Sudan than this (more pyramids than Egypt, over 100 languages, great food). I'll dedicate a post to Sudan, the country, soon. I just need time to compile it and do it justice. #travel #africa

I'll be looking forward to more tales from the country of the #BlackPharaos. πŸ˜€

@HistoPol An amazing country! Sudan has more pyramids than Egypt (though they are a bit smaller). I'll upload a longer post on my time there this weekend.

If you're interested in Nubian culture, I would recommend looking for some traditional Nubian music. I'm into it.

Edit: realised that I already gave the pyramid fact in the initial post, so here's another: The Nubians successfully conquered Egypt and ruled over the Egyptians for a hundred years.

Thanks for sharing. I have never been there. I should like to travel there some time, though.

At this point, I should reveal, though, that some years back I read all the history novels about ancient #Egypt that I could get my hands on: from the founding of a unified kingdom, to its demise as a #Roman province and the #Arab conquest.

It is not my list, but some of my favorite authors are there: #ChristianJacq,#ColleenMcCullough,...

...and #MagaretGeorge.-- McCullough also being the classic benchmark for novels on the #Roman Republic.

(I became such a fan of Prof. Jacq that I even read a sequel of a trilogy in the #French original, as I needed to know the end of a story...something I had not done since high school. πŸ˜‰)

I'll be looking forward to your weekend toot.

@HistoPol Thanks very much for the info. I think I'll give that a read. I'm new to historical fiction. Do you use Bookwyrm?

The toot is out. I agonised over it... and the blog post. I couldn't do the country justice, though. I suppose you'll have to take a trip to see for yourself πŸ˜€

@jsmay

No, I had not heard of this social network about books.
