My church's leadership has voted to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church, and it goes to full congregation vote in March. I'm disappointed and don't understand. They're not doing it to join the conservative Global Methodist Church, and communications specifically mention the harsh language in the UMC Book of Discipline re: sexual orientation and gender as a reason for disaffiliation. Wouldn't it make more sense to hold out until the conservative congregations all leave for the GMC?
