I know nothing about this but it seems that a #hybrid car with #replaceable #hydrogen and a smaller #battery would seem like a great combo. Battery electric for short journeys and a smaller #fuelcell to provide longer range.

@abeorch There's a lot of winning in #hydrogen based #power. The problem always comes down to the cost of production, and the logistics of storing and transporting it.

Hydrogen is a great power mechanism, but battery tech is on course to improve in ways that will make it less feasible to invest in hydrogen, with greater benefits. All the tech going into car batteries is 100% translateable into mobile elctronics, etc.

I was just thinking that a adding a fuel cell + interchangeable tank basically solves the range problem (yes you are paying more for the fuel but its storable and refillable) and because you dont have range anxiety you dont need a battery with a 400km range when you are usually only doing 100kms a day.

Range anxiety is so overrated. You can basically charge everywhere you are, no need to travel to a fuelling station. Electricity is everywhere your car can take you.
Now compare that to #h2.
You’re free to dream about refuelling in remote areas, in reality there is no business case to invest in such facilities. And no, you cannot simply take a can of spare h2 just in case @abeorch @roygreenhilt

My experience is that for long journeys it is an issue. Friends described stressful and delayed #roadtrips with a desire to drive longer they were able to. Would replaceable #h2 cartridges require less infrastructure (Like #swappable #lpg ) ? Its all academic - I'm just musing
