Sometimes I just want to hear "elevator music". And when I want elevator music, I want the *real* thing. I want to hear it *exactly* as I could have heard it in actual elevators or in the background of department stores many years ago.

And since this is the 21st century, I can do this, thanks to the official "Seeburg 1000" background music streaming site -- on the web, from #Google Assistant via TuneIn -- or many other ways!

These are the original Seeburg 1000 tracks as recorded by their own orchestra! Accept no imitations!

@TonyJWells Yeah, I've actually seen that, since I follow him.

@lauren

I do love a good Techmoan video.

@lauren @therealfitz Man, that brings back memories. Shopping in Caldors and hearing Willie the Pimp (Zappa/Beefheart) played by an orchestra that sounded like Mantovani's 101 Strings.
@lauren Doesn't seem to work in Linux in Firefox or Chrome.
@resuna Works fine in Chrome in Ubuntu here. But then again, you can also listen through anything that plays TuneIn, including Assistant.
@resuna Their desktop player says OFFLINE right now. I was playing it for several hours earlier today.
@lauren I assumed that was a problem on my end because a refresh switched it to LIVE.
@resuna It just looks down right now. Hang on a sec.
@resuna Working OK via Google Assistant right now.
@resuna Maybe I overloaded it promoting it here.
@lauren How can I go directly to their version of The Girl from Ipanema?
@lauren have you heard of the "Attention K-Mart Shoppers" collection on the Internet Archive?

@lauren Wow. Thanks for that. Hahaha. Very cool.

@lauren I can't get the desktop player to work. But it's late and I have to sleep. I'll mess with it tomorrow night.

This is totally cool.

@shuttersparks Yeah, their desktop player seems to be broken. Odd, because it worked when I sent that post.
@shuttersparks Last time I checked it was back up.

@lauren Just checked now. Same behavior as before. The ON AIR is blinking red. The player says "OFFLINE" and is unresponsive to clicks. The volume control on the player opens if I click it, set to about 80 percent. But if I try to change the setting, it drops to zero, shows mute, and refuses to budge after that.

The popup version of the player does the same thing.

Just to be sure, before going to the site tonight, I disabled all protections for that site (tracker blocks etc).

Strange.

@lauren If it's not in an elevator, it's sparkling muzak.
