😱 Samsung stuffs its Galaxy S23's Android OS with so much bloatware, it gets very close to insane 60 GB.
Hands up, who needs an Android 4 times the size of Google's & twice the size of Windows 11...

Bloatware pushes the Galaxy S23 Android OS to an incredible 60GB [Updated]

Samsung's Android build is 4x bigger than Google's.

@ArenaCops Is this the size of a partition or space taken by Android files πŸ€”

Looking at my S22U just over 8 gig used by the Android folders.

EDIT: Without root, I can't see the system files. This folder is just app config data

@jamze ~60 GB for the *system partition* alone, the report says.
For the Android OS & included apps & bloatware.
And: "Samsung may want to give the appearance of having its own non-Google ecosystem, and to do that, it clones every Google app that comes with its devices. Samsung is contractually obligated to include the Google apps, so you get both the Google and Samsung versions."

@ArenaCops Understood. I use the Samsung ecosystem, works well for me. I just delete the Google apps I don't need. There are Microsoft apps preloaded too, as they are also a partner.

I think the difference is Samsung puts its ecosystem apps in the system partition alongside Android. Google doesn't

@jamze Right! That's what the article says.

@ArenaCops Looks like that Ars Technica article is bogus though.

I thought it was weird. If it was true, 128GB phones would only have about 68GB space for use by users for apps and data

One UI 5.1 bloatware is not consuming 60 GB storage on new Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus or Galaxy S23 Ultra

Recently there have been reports that One UI 5.1 reserves upwards of 60 GB storage for system partitions on the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra. Samsung may continue to insist on pre-installing third-party apps on One UI, but claims of 60 GB in bloatware are far from true.
