“Open Source” Seeds Loosen Big Ag’s Grip on Farmers – World Sensorium / Conservancy

The OSS model is significant and much needed.

Important to emphasize:
Patented seed is almost always _agricultural_ seed, for crops grown at large scales.

In the US, at least, "the vast majority of garden seed varieties--including heirloom and historic varieties, most hybrids, and many modern open-pollinated varieties--are not protected under any of the various forms of intellectual property protection."

From: The Seed Garden, published by Seed Savers Exchange, 2015

@jgbarah @gijs ….. how can you patent a seed?

@jgbarah @gijs

Intellectual Property is theft.

Especially true when it comes to agriculture, health and education.

@jgbarah @gijs cool article! I read several of Carol Deppe’s books last year and sought out her seed. (And other OSSI seeds, but I’m really excited about her corns and her Sweet Meat squash.) #gardening

@jgbarah @gijs Seeds are the future golden commodity.
@jgbarah @gijs If those seeds grow plants that eat Pinkerton cops, it will solve a whole host of farmers' problems...
