Another week, another set of great news from the world of #nuclear! This week in „Nuclear energy as the future of nations”: Slovakia 🇸🇰, Belgium 🇧🇪 and Poland 🇵🇱! (a thread 🧵)
On 31.01 a new VVER440 nuclear reactor unit, #Mochovce3 in 🇸🇰, was connected to the electricity grid for the first time! At this occasion Branislav Strýček, CEO of @Elektrarne, recalled the very low price of electricity from nuclear for households – only 61.2€ / MWh!
Sadly, on the same day the #Tihange2 reactor was shut down in Belgium. However, apparently the government is in talks with Engie on extending the operation of other reactors beyond 2025. Last year 🇧🇪 decided to extend the operation of two reactors, Doel 4 et Tihange 3, until 2035
Poland is not losing its pronuclear enthusiasm. CEO of PKN Orlen @DanielObajtek announced that first #SMR (Small Modular Reactor) in Poland will be built in 2028. By 2038 🇵🇱 should have 76 SMRs in 26 locations which are to be disclosed later this year. https://www.thefirstnews.com/article/pkn-orlen-plans-to-build-76-smrs-by-2038-36146
