WTL@Paulatics It blows my mind that we aren't collectively pushing harder for high-speed rail in the Quebec City - Windsor corridor, that would eliminate a lot of flights, reducing carbon emissions, and less time in airports (ugh). It doesn't solve the longer-distance issues you face, of course.
PatThe profit is private and directly relates to a lack of publicly mandated service and unwillingness to apply laws that exist. Why is everything deemed a crisis ,when no such crisis exists,but a combination of unrealistic expectations in a pandemic & mismanagement is the rule of the day. It's all covid now. Service for few , marginalizing of many . A choice made

The VIA Rail head pinned their failings in the December storm on a lack of comms to passengers but they didn't address VIA's lack of adequate emergency contingency plans. They claimed that it was unprecedented but the rail blockades in 2020 crippled the rail network for days, and then like now, VIA did nothing. No arrangement with intercity bus companies to provide backup transportation or hotels to house stranded passengers. Rescue trains are useless when the rails are blocked.
