1. In 2018, Google dropped "Don't be evil" as its corporate motto and removed that famous phrase from its Code of Conduct.

I think @CollaboraOffice is working on making LibreOffice (LO) online usable.

I began using LO after repeated problems with MS Office years ago. I found LO so much easier to use that I quit MS.

Last I knew, you needed separate online storage for Collabora, but that may have changed. They seem to be making impressive progress.

Ah thanks for this rec. I need to check this out. And/or try to go back to the more old fashioned method of documents only on my hard drive, what a concept. ;-)

There are times that G Docs isn't robust enough for what I want to do, so I still use LO on my PC. Google's big strength for me as an educator is the ability to copy/paste directly from the web w/o needing to download & save then find & insert. Otherwise, I still find LO preferable.
