New blog post and a request for help - I'm looking for examples of national portals / infrastructure / support for citizen science / crowdsourcing projects

https://www.openobjects.org.uk/2023/01/national-approaches-to-crowdsourcing-citizen-science/

So far I have France and Slovenia - does your country have one that I haven't found yet?

National approaches to crowdsourcing / citizen science? – Open Objects

Thanks everyone who's suggested national portals and organisations for citizen science and crowdsourcing! I've added them to my post at https://www.openobjects.org.uk/2023/01/national-approaches-to-crowdsourcing-citizen-science/

I've also updated an earlier post on international crowdsourcing projects https://www.openobjects.org.uk/2015/05/crowdsourcing-world/ for links about specific projects

Thanks to @BuffaloResearch @DavidH @_bydbach_ @ennomeijers @alastairdunning @CitSciLab @agata @MadorlandoLiz (hopefully I didn't miss anyone out!)

National approaches to crowdsourcing / citizen science? – Open Objects

I've updated this post again - first Austria, suggested by Jan Smeddinck, and Brazil, suggested by @lesandrop
@mia Have you seen iRecord yet? It encourages citizen scientists to identify the birds and the bees and the flowers and anything that moves or wobbles. https://irecord.org.uk/
Home | iRecord

@_bydbach_ I hadn't, thanks for the tip! I wonder how it relates to iSpot https://www.ispotnature.org/ (and iNaturalist https://www.inaturalist.org/ internationally)
Home | iSpot Nature

Home : iSpot Nature - Your place to share nature. iSpot is a website aimed at helping anyone identify anything in nature. Once you've registered, you can add an observation to the website and suggest an identification yourself or see if anyone else can identify it for you.

@mia I genuinely don't know how they are related.
@mia In Sweden there is https://medborgarforskning.se/ Provides an intro to citizen science, a catalogue of Swedish projects, etc. Seems to be part of an EU-network of such sites.
Medborgarforskning.se

In English – Medborgarforskning.se

@DavidH awesome, thank you!
@mia @DavidH Is medborgarforskning.se confined to natural sciences? I don't see https://sok.riksarkivet.se/om-soktjansten?infosida=transkribera on it.

@benwbrum @mia No, it shouldn't be! I'll get in touch with them to ask them to add our project as a case.

In general though citizen science in Sweden is very dominated by biodiversity and environmental sciences. A recent report from our National Library even indicated that some humanities researchers feel threatened by citizen science!

@DavidH @benwbrum I've noticed some resistance to including GLAM / citizen history in citizen science work, so perhaps there's room to find common ground still
@benwbrum @mia Ben, the project to transcribe the petition for women's suffrage is now on medborgarforskning.se (and the EU-site as well).
@DavidH @mia Hooray! I love to see history included.
@mia In Wales, we have the People's Collection, which functions as a citizen archive of Wales' history and heritage. https://www.peoplescollection.wales/

@mia Similarly, there's HistoryPin. https://www.historypin.org/

@mia This particular collection is a favourite of mine, as it's been crowdsourced of all sorts of ritual deposits across the UK. https://www.historypin.org/en/person/66740

@_bydbach_ eek, I just had a look and it's looking a bit spammy. I've written to them in case they hadn't noticed
@_bydbach_ I don't suppose you know the Welsh word for 'crowdsourcing' or 'citizen science' or 'citizen history'?

@mia 'Citizen history' would be 'hanes dinasyddion' and 'Citizen science' 'Gwyddoniaeth dinasyddion'. I need to hunt for 'crowd sourcing' elsewhere tomorrow.

ETA: edited for typo.

@mia 'Cyfrannu torfol' for 'crowdsourcing'.

@mia In the Netherlands there is https://velehanden.nl run by https://picturae.com/en/ and https://hetvolk.org run by @mmmenno and colleagues. Both platforms have no English information available so I suggest to contact the people behind them for more information.

@mia Norway has recently formed a national network for citizen science that’s coordinated by Research Council of Norway https://www.forskningsradet.no/forskningspolitikk-strategi/nasjonalt-nettverk-folkeforskning/
Nasjonalt nettverk for folkeforskning

Folkeforskning innebærer å engasjere og involvere folk som ikke har forskerbakgrunn i forskning, i samarbeid med forskere eller forskningsinstitusjoner.

@mia In the Netherlands there is also a Citizen Science network, run by @CitSciLab. It is part of the national programme on Open Science
@mia The Library of Congress has a great project: crowd.loc.gov
@mia there was one where everyone could open a browser and get a page of old weather measurements from the past hundred years, they needed people to validate the OCR and fill in what couldn't be recognized. Right at the start of the pandemic IIRC...
@reneestephen sounds like one of the Old Weather projects, maybe the Australian one?
