new #sonnet for #VerseThursday #poetsonthursday - i cracked myself up with the idea (only arrived at 3/4 through writing, which is why i love writing these!) that the very first cave-dweller was deeply upset because they didn't care for modern architecture #poem #poems #poetry #sonnets @poetry @sonnet @sonnets
oops revised something at some point & didn't notice the two "embrace"s - i'll figure something out!
@guentheralex @poetry @sonnet @sonnets 1) this is brilliant! 2) I'm sure people then were the same as we are now in that one thing: We like what we know; change is never fun.

@lmgenealogy

thanks so much! i agree about human nature never changing... i started thinking this after i read that the oldest ceramics often have patterns pressed into them to simulate baskets - there must have been people who were annoyed by how artificial that seemed! :)

@guentheralex It's so interesting, the hints we get about how people lived - and even how they felt - so long ago, in a world that would be completely alien to us. I think of history as being like sci fi, in that it involved real people, who must have had needs and cares similar to ours, but living in circumstances we can only vaguely imagine.
@lmgenealogy yes - i've definitely been having that sci-fi feeling about prehistory lately - i think it started when i read this book "deep history" that went into weird thought experiments about what we share with early humans, for example that we've always treated our tools like prosthetic limbs, whether they're a hammer or a car we're driving https://www.ucpress.edu/book/9780520274624/deep-history
Deep History

Humans have always been interested in their origins, but historians have been reluctant to write about the long stretches of time before the invention of writing. In fact, the deep past was left out of most historical writing almost as soon as it was discovered.

@lmgenealogy @guentheralex @lmgenealogy @guentheralex Beautiful color photography. There's been lots of changes but the surprise is how much is still the same. The biggest change is the pride and identification with the modernity and achievement of the City. The biggest change is attitude. https://youtu.be/IaxoKXNhJdQ
