Time to empty the rain gauge. Again. Second time this week. My Ozark Beauty strawberry plants - that started out as a lone survivor of last summer’s >100F heat which revived & spread to other GreenStalk pods when temps moderated in the fall, and then a couple of those were knocked out by the Xmas deep freeze - are now about to drown. Though if they make it I’m expecting them to produce some kick-ass survivor strawberries come spring.

@Trilobyter Here’s a clear sign we’re going to have another major freeze in February. My unscientific opinion. Two years ago, the Paperwhites bloomed, I thought winter was over, then it hit.
@schfinkes yeah that’s winter in south /southeast Texas. On any given day between about Nov 1st & March 31st it could be 85F or it could be 25F. Plan accordingly (as in you can’t plan anything). But those were some nice-looking Paperwhites 🙂
@schfinkes I should have said “are” some nice looking Paperwhites. When did you plant those?
@Trilobyter We live on property my mother-in-law lived on for decades. There’s no rhyme or reason to anything, and flowers coming up here and there are no exception. 😂
@schfinkes before we moved up to the far northern suburban reaches of the Houston metro area in late ‘21 we had a townhouse near downtown that had a small space in front and most of that was cement driveway or rocks but there was a tiny patch of soil out by the street in which someone before us had planted some lovely red lilies and we were treated to its repeated blooms early every spring.
