The wife and I are going “sign hunting” one last time before our first child arrives. We’ll be driving along the east bank of the #MississippiRiver in #Plaquemine Parish looking for signs placed as part of #Louisiana’s #HistoricalMarkers program.

I’m kicking off this thread to record the day’s adventures. Our first stop will be down in Pointe-A-La-Hache, then we’ll work our way back towards #NOLA.

Let’s see what kind of trouble we can get into!

Our first stop was a bust, but at least we got to see the memorial to the old Plaquemine Parish courthouse which was burned in 2002.

The second stop was also a bust, but our third was a hit. The site of Woodlawn Highschool and the Struggle for Racial Equality. This is currently the site of the volunteer fire department and there is also an unmarked old building, which isn’t the school (it was demolished in 2014).

Looks like we’ll have to cut it short due to an issue with one of the tires… headed back home to check for nails 😬

We’ll get the rest next time!

Here are some other random pictures from our little road trip!

Third photo is the old Harlem Plantation House. Built 1840, on the National Register, but derelict since the Federal Flood in 2005. Good to see it hasn't totally collapsed yet, I guess. Here it is in 2009.
