Am I the only one who thinks this is the WORST implementation of a timeline?

Why not just let me scroll up to see the new toots? Why would I tap one button to move to the top, and one to bring in the new toots one at a time?!

Are there really people out there who think this is good?

@rajat I couldn't understand it either. Literally went WTF when I tried it, it was fetching 1 by 1! You had to click it to fetch a single one, or fetch all and immediately go to the top, losing your position. 😕

@rushvora Ice Cubes is, without question, the most feature-rich Mastodon app out there, and I use it myself. But this timeline thing makes me want to tear my own hair out. It’s such a (seemingly) simple problem that’s been over complicated by having two buttons replace what every other clients resolves by regular user gestures (scrolling up a timeline, and tapping the top of the screen to scroll all the way up).

@rajat agreed. That alone is a dealbreaker for me. I'm sticking with Woolly (TestFlight), it works well enough. I don't want to try Ivory because the subscription model + price puts me off, and it's not complete yet. Eventually I think I'll end up there, cause I adored Tweetbot (thankfully there the pre-subscription app still worked great).

@rushvora Wooly is nice! It lacks one critical feature for me, however : translation.

As for Ivory, ditto : it really is great, but too feature-incomplete for me to justify subscribing. Also, their solution for translating a toot is to launch the in-app browser to Google Translate. Meaning, every time I was to translate something, I get that goddamn GDPR warning unless I sign in to Google. Don’t understand why in-line translation is something neither Tweetbot, nor Ivory, can do.

@rushvora Another thing that annoys me about Ice Cubes is that use AI to determine if a toot should be translated. Meaning if the toot is 100% in German, the ‘Translate’ option shows up. However, if the toot has a mixture of languages, the chances of the ‘Translate’ button showing up are hit-or-miss.

Again, needlessly complicated for no reason. Why not just have the option permanently available?

@rajat oh wow, I thought it'll be like Twitter where you have a translate button if you need it. Seems unnecessary/financially inefficient to automatically translate all the non-primary language toots.

@rushvora No no, you misunderstand. It’s EXACTLY like Twitter, in that the app decides if the Translate button should appear or not. I want it to always be there.

@rushvora For me, Mammoth is the best. I wish they’d implement iCloud sync across their iOS and Mac apps, but I’m prepared to wait for that.
