Hey smarthome peeps! I desperately want to upgrade my 10 hydronic radiators with smart valves but… they don’t seem to exist in the US 🤷‍♂️. Netatmo, Eve, Aqara, etc. all have products marketed in Europe & elsewhere, but not here. Has anyone used one of these foreign products in their US home (concerned about compatibility), or found an alternative?

This is for efficiency and cost savings, yes, but we also have a finished basement with no forced air. The only source of heat is a lone hydronic water heater. There’s little chance I could balance those manual valves in such a way as to get heat down there and NOT roast the rest of the house.
@VTDARKSIM I've been looking for the same thing, but the zone valves I've found are big bulky units that would be installed on pipes in the basement and require wiring to a controller and external temperature sensors.

@cjdavis ughhh that’s terrible.

I’ve got a Nest thermostat w/ remote temperature sensors in various rooms, & that all ties into HomeKit via HomeBridge. All I need are some physically-compatible valves I can configure to open/close based on the T sensor readings. I can brute force Nest to run the boiler (up the set point) until the T is met, at which time the valve closes & the Nest set point will be set back.

This should be fairly easy to do, nonexistent parts notwithstanding.

@cjdavis I wonder if I/we couldn’t just use some rotary actuators to manipulate the existing valves 🤔

Might need to finally learn how to use #Arduino.
